Beats by Dr. Dre has an initiative focused on building the “next generation of young Black creatives.”

The HBCU (Historically Black College or University) Creators Program provides HBCU students and recent graduates an opportunity to hone their creative skills while getting a bird’s eye view of the industry. The program is paid and will start in July and continue through September. According to Beatsbydre.com, the program is “anchored in community and craft, our students will gain mentorship and exposure from industry leaders through a world class curriculum that supports the full creative process from ideation to design development.”

The program has two tracks, content and customs. The Content Track will allow students to create social media content for the company. The track is targeting students interested in becoming filmmakers, script writers, photographers, videographers, content creators and content editors. The program will help students enhance their story telling skills and they will leave the program with 2 social films that will be broadcasted on the Beats by Dr. Dre social media pages.

The Customs Track will target students that are skilled illustrators, digital artists, fashion designers, painters, graphic designers, mixed media artists, cartoonists, graffiti artists, etc. “Creators on this track will be responsible for gathering + presenting insights for: a Custom Headphone and its respective packaging design.”

HBCU students and recent alum will have access to resources, mentors and a community to help them thrive in their creativity while creating something tangible to take away. Be sure to lookout the products and content that will be released from both tracks. “Black Creators has been the blueprint of Beats by Dr. Dre. It is our pledge to continuously build a platform that uplifts the next generation of young Black creatives,” states the website.
